Setting the record straight: EUC to continue to offer Horizon with vSphere and vSAN

With the news of the pending divestiture of the End-User Computing (EUC) Division of Broadcom, formerly VMware EUC, both customers and industry pundits are naturally wondering what comes next for our business. One point of speculation is the historical bundling of VMware vSphere and vSAN with the Horizon VDI, DaaS, and published apps offerings. EUC has offered its Term and SaaS editions for years: versions of Horizon that are combined with vSphere and vSAN (depending on the edition) and versions of Horizon that were without vSphere and vSAN.

So let us set the record straight: effective post-divestiture, EUC and Broadcom have entered into a reseller agreement enabling EUC to offer the "combined offering" versions of Horizon SaaS and Horizon Term SKUs with vSphere Foundation for VDI (which includes vSphere, vCenter, and vSAN). This combined offering will be available in both Named User and Concurrent User license metrics and for 1-, 3-, and 5-year terms.

Furthermore, EUC has no plans to increase Horizon list prices beyond normal annual adjustments. EUC will continue to grow investments in Horizon R&D and customer-facing roles as we become a standalone company.

Customers of Horizon combined offerings with vSphere and vSAN can be confident about upcoming renewals or expanding deployments. Horizon renewals and additional licenses can be purchased directly from EUC or through their partner of choice.

A new entitlement: "VMware vSphere Foundation for VDI"

Post-divestiture, the combined offerings will include a "VMware vSphere Foundation for VDI" entitlement ("VVF for VDI" for short) in the SKUs, rather than individual entitlements for vSphere, vCenter, and vSAN that have been in the SKUs historically. The VVF for VDI inclusion in the combined offering will begin in May 2024 and continue post-divestiture.

VVF for VDI includes:

Existing combined offering licenses will continue to work normally until the end of the customer's license term. When they renew, they will get the new entitlement to VVF for VDI. If customers purchase expansion licenses, they can also easily be combined into their existing deployments.

Getting new entitlements and support

When customers renew or purchase, at fulfillment they will get two emails, one from EUC directing them to the new EUC Customer Connect portal and one from Broadcom directing them to the Broadcom Support Portal to get their Horizon and VVF for VDI license keys and downloads, respectively.

To receive customer support for Horizon combined offerings, customers should go to EUC Customer Support.

Moving on from legacy VDI vendors

Customers of legacy VDI vendors who are facing significant price increases or a poor customer experience should come take a look! Horizon offers a modern platform for the secure delivery of virtual desktops and apps across the hybrid cloud. We continue to invest in both on-premises and hyperscaler support, and we have a variety of services and tools to simplify and speed migrations. Now is the perfect time to see how Horizon supports your use cases without the headaches.

What the future will bring for Horizon customers

We are so excited to deliver on our Horizon roadmap, which is shaped by our customer requests, advisory boards, and the EUC Experts community. We will continue expansion of partner platforms for running Horizon workloads, both in the cloud and on-premises. App Volumes will continue to expand its platform support as a universal packaging format and to simplify app management with our innovative Apps on Demand capability, which delivers apps in real time when users access them to reduce image and app-related time and cost. We are continually optimizing our Blast Extreme display protocol and other real-time audio visual (RTAV) capabilities to give end users the best experience even under sub-optimal network conditions. EUC also continues to add new features to take the cost out of virtual apps and desktops, such as cloud-based agent updates and synthetic testing services.

We look forward to providing more innovation and increasingly simplified management to customers. Stay tuned for what comes next!
