Apple Vision Pro management now GA in Workspace ONE
When Apple launched their Vision Pro device, they introduced the unique concept of “spatial computing,” immersing users in arguably the most advanced computing experience to date.
Early in 2024, we provided support for Omnissa Horizon® and the Omnissa Workspace ONE® productivity apps on Apple Vision Pro, secured through Workspace ONE Tunnel. This made Workspace ONE Web, Workspace ONE Boxer, and Workspace ONE Content available, and it opened up access to virtual desktops with Omnissa Horizon. We published a blog on that release.
Workspace ONE UEM device management capabilities for Vision Pro are now GA
When Vision Pro first launched, it shipped without MDM support. Apple initially added support for user-based device enrollment and basic device management. Then, with visionOS 2.0, Automated Device Enrollment and extensive device management controls were enabled. In November 2024, we announced that initial Workspace ONE management capabilities for Vision Pro were available for testing in tech preview in this blog.
Now, we are excited to announce that these capabilities are generally available for SaaS customers in version 24.10 of Workspace ONE UEM.
The following capabilities are now available in production environments:
- Account Driven User Enrollment of visionOS 1.1+ based devices
- Import Apple Vision Pro devices from Apple Business Manager
- Automated Device Enrollment of visionOS 2.0+ based devices
- Apple Vision Pro device inventory
- Detailed device information for Apple Vision Pro devices
- MDM commands to query device state, clear passcode, lock device, erase device, and enterprise wipe devices
- Restrict enrollment of visionOS based devices
- Create smart groups for visionOS based devices
- Create profiles for visionOS based devices — separately from iOS, macOS, and tvOS devices.
- Apply the following configurations and profiles:
- Restrictions
- Wi-Fi
- Credentials
- Custom Settings: Custom settings enable admins to push any supported profile configuration (like Passcode) to Apple Vision Pro devices.
- Ability to push custom commands to Apple Vision Pro devices: Custom commands enable admins to push any supported command to Apple Vision Pro devices.
You can now enable these capabilities in the Workspace ONE UEM console. Be aware that this list represents just our initial rollout, and we will continue to deliver additional functionality for visionOS devices over the coming releases of Workspace ONE UEM. Future releases will include making all visionOS profiles available, adding more MDM commands from the console, assigning applications via the UEM console, and supporting declarative device management.
Note: visionOS functionality requires Workspace ONE modern architecture. To learn more about modern architecture, please see this Tech Zone article: Workspace ONE UEM Modernization Wave 1.
