With Microsoft’s reaffirmation of the end-of-life for App-V server components set for April 2026, organizations relying on App-V for application deployment are now presented with a critical opportunity to reassess their app management strategies. Meanwhile, extended support for the App-V Client and Sequencer means that while security updates will continue, there will not be further feature development. This reality emphasizes the need for organizations to look for a more robust solution to package and manage apps moving forward.

App Volumes for full app lifecycle management

For those of you who need app delivery without relying on App-V servers, Omnissa App Volumes provides a powerful and comprehensive alternative. Designed to deliver and manage applications at scale, App Volumes Manager simplifies app deployment, update cycles, and user access controls across different environments. By using App Volumes, you can upgrade your app lifecycle management toolset to one that scales as business needs grow.

How to remediate existing App-V packages with App Capture

Many organizations have invested substantial resources into building and sequencing their App-V packages. Rather than abandoning these investments, there is an efficient approach to reuse or replace these packages with App Volumes. Here are three options:

Convert App-V packages to App Volumes with App Capture

With the recent release of App Volumes Tools 2410, the App Capture feature provides conversion capabilities, allowing organizations to transform App-V packages directly into App Volumes packages. This process retains the original app configuration, while enabling management through App Volumes Manager. App Capture not only facilitates a smooth transition from App-V but also brings the advantages of App Volumes’ 99% app compatibility and very easy package creation without all the fuss. Learn more by reading the release notes for App Volumes 2410 or this app capture guide.

Capture applications directly into new packages with App Capture

For applications that are not yet virtualized or need updated packaging, App Capture also allows for a clean capture process by creating App Volumes packages without sequencing, uninstall headaches, or fixups. This option is ideal for virtually all applications, especially for anyone looking to replace legacy installs with streamlined, up-to-date packages that fully leverage App Volumes’ capabilities.

Capture App-V packages as-is and deliver with App Volumes

By encapsulating existing App-V packages within an App Volumes package, you can streamline app delivery across desktops and virtualized environments, leveraging the performance benefits and flexibility of App Volumes for delivery while preserving your existing App-V packages.
